Description


Manages research administration for the Institute for Integration of Medicine & Science (IIMS).  Directly responsible for grant operations, financial planning and reporting, and pre and post-award management and implementation activities



Responsibilities

  • Provides professional expertise in the complex areas of sponsored research agreements and subawards.

  • Manages staff to include interviewing, selecting and training of employees; setting and adjusting pay rates and hours of work; planning/directing work; appraising productivity/efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in status. And working with other supervisors to fill positions as needed.

  • Handles staff complaints/grievances and disciplines when necessary.

  • Oversees the financial operations of multiple awards, to include allocation of funds, expenditure approval and supply management.

  • Ensures financial responsibility of all accounts within IIMS.

  • Develops and recommends cost control, planning, scheduling, and procedural changes.

  • Serves as the technical expert for equipment and safety compliance.

  • Manages timelines for grant preparation and assists in gathering materials needed and writing multiple sections of the background material, maintaining consistent wording, abbreviations and formatting of all portions of grant.

  • Prepares periodic reports for institution, partner organizations and federal agencies as needed.

  • Develops budgets for grants and institutional support.

  • Meets frequently with each section of the CTSA to share information and answer any questions as well as monitor staff issues and progress

  • Attend institutional, local, regional and national meetings.

  • Assist in planning events within the IIMS and contribute during the event to ensure it is successful.

  • Works with all other teams under IIMS to accomplish plans and goals.

  • Works closely with other UTHSA academic units (Schools, Departments, Divisions, Centers) and service components (Budget, Accounting, Payroll, Informatics, Human Resources).

  • Works closely with CTSA partner institutions (UTSA, UT Austin, Texas Biomed, VA, SAMMC, others).

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge in research compliance, operations and guidelines.

  • Demonstrated ability in managing a variety of projects with successful outcomes.

  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel and reporting software.

  • Budgeting knowledge employing strong budget and financial analysis.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including persuasive report writing and the ability to present conclusions.

  • Knowledge of Federal Grants including submission processes and reporting.


EDUCATION:



  • Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree is preferred.
